The National Medical Commission (NMC) has told 50 top medical colleges in India to promote the PM Vidyalaxmi Scheme. The Reserve Bank of India has asked all commercial banks to follow the Model Education Loan Scheme (MELS) created by the Indian Banks’ Association. On 6th November 2024, the PM Vidyalaxmi Scheme started to provide loans, making it easier for students at Quality Higher Educational Institutions (QHEIs). Students can apply for loans online.


The NMC has given a list of 50 top medical institutions, including AIIMS branches, state colleges, and private universities. They want these institutions to include details about the PM Vidyalaxmi scheme in their admission materials. This aims to inform eligible students about financial help available and encourage more students to use the scheme. Eligible students can apply for loans through the PM Vidyalaxmi portal.

Some institutions on the list are AIIMS Delhi, AIIMS Patna, JIPMER Puducherry, PGIMER Chandigarh, Madras Medical College, CMC Vellore, and King George’s Medical University, spread across 24 states and union territories in India.
